How to Use AI to Improve Your Interpreting Skills

Use AI to create practice material and explore vocabulary. Check its output against reliable references and feedback from qualified people.
Create fictional practice scenarios
Give a clear subject, level, and objective. For example: “Create a fictional supplier meeting for consecutive interpreting practice. Include delivery dates, quantities, and a clarification request. Do not use real personal or company information.” Check whether the language and scenario are realistic before practising.
Build and verify a glossary
Ask for possible terms, definitions, and equivalents in your working languages. Treat them as suggestions. Check specialist vocabulary against trusted references and actual usage in the relevant field.
Review a practice attempt
Compare your rendition with the source message. If using a transcript, check it against the audio first: speech recognition errors can distort the review. AI feedback cannot certify your interpreting competence.
Protect confidential information
Use fictional or appropriately public practice material. Do not upload client recordings, documents, or personal information without the necessary permission and protections. Consult the professional standards that apply to your work, such as the ATA ethics commentary.
Finish each session with one concrete improvement and repeat the exercise. The learning comes from deliberate practice and checking your work.
